11 Students in the UK selected for Fulbright scholarships

Fulbright Scholarships11 Students in the UK have been selected for Fulbright scholarships announced the Office of Nationally Competitive Awards at the University of Kentucky. This includes 7 recent graduates and 4 Doctoral students. They are the recipients of the Fulbright US Student Program scholarships. This is along with 2,000 students in the US who will travel overseas for the academic year 2019-20.

Fulbright scholarships are offered based on professional or academic achievement. It also includes demonstrating the potential for leadership in their fields. The program is functional in 40 plus nations, as quoted by the UK Now UKY Edu.

This year the students in the UK who received the Fulbright scholarships were chosen from record 37 University applications. However, just 8 of them have opted to accept the offers from Fulbright. These 8 accepted Fulbright placements are in a tie with the earlier record for the highest number of UK University students receiving Fulbright awards.

The Fulbright Program was established in 1946 through legislation introduced by US Senator J. William Fulbright of Arkansas. It has since then offered 380,000 individuals the opportunity to conduct research, teach, and study. This includes Scientists, Artists, Teachers, Scholars, and Students. They have also exchanged ideas and contributed to finding solutions for shared global issues.

Alumni of Fulbright have achieved distinction in Science, Government, the Arts, Education, Business, Philanthropy, and Athletics. They have also won esteemed honours like the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom, MacArthur Foundation Award, Pulitzer Prize, and Nobel Prize.

The Institute of International Education administers the US Fulbright Student Program. Students in the UK who are US citizens can apply for the Fulbright scholarships. This is through the Office of Nationally Competitive Awards at the University.

The Office of Nationally Competitive Awards forms a part of the Chellgren Centre for Undergraduate Excellence in the Division of Student and Academic Life at the UK. It assists current Graduate and Undergraduate students in the UK and fresh alumni in applications for external fellowships and scholarships. This is funded by sources like a government agency or nongovernment foundation outside the University.
