5-fold increase in approval of E-Visas by India

India has approved 5 times more E-Visas in the past 5 years offering 25 Lakh Visas in this category from 2015. This is as per the Home Ministry officials. The numbers of Visa sub-streams have also been reduced to 65 from 104. This is in efforts to simplify and rationalize the Visa process.

The numbers of E-Visas increased to 25.15 lakh in 2018 from just 5.29 lakh in 2015. This is as per the data of the Bureau of Immigration in India. Meanwhile, the Paper-based or regular Visas offered by overseas Indian missions decreased to 35 lakh from 45 lakh. This is in the same period. The numbers of main Visa streams have also been reduced to 21 from 26. This is by combining some Visa categories, as quoted by the Asian Age.

The E-Visa facility offered by India now covers 166 nations where overseas nationals can receive the online Visa in just 3 days. This is for travel activities such as Conferences, Medical attendant, Health, Business, and Tourism.

The Film Visa has also been increased to include Web series and shows as well as Reece of locations. Registration is now not needed if overseas national wants to stay in India for 6 months with a Film Visa.

The scope of Tourist Visas has also been expanded. It now includes unstructured, short-term courses for 6 months on local languages, Medicine, Cooking, Arts and Crafts, Dance and Music. Voluntary work for 30 days is also now permitted under the Tourist Visa similarly.

The duration of the E-Business and E-Tourist Visas have been increased to 1 year from 60 days. The earlier curbs on 2 entries in 1 year have also been removed. Thus multiple entries on E-Business and E-Tourist Visas are now permitted.

An overseas national can now apply for E-Tourist and E-Business Visas at any time online. Officials claim that the restriction of maximum 4 months in advance application prior to arrival date has been removed.
