Recently, a survey was published by the Business Council of Canada. It was reported that more and more Canadian employers are hiring immigrant skilled workers to reduce the revenue losses happening because of canceled or delayed contracts.

The report titled "Canada's Immigration Advantage: A Survey of Major Employers" published the results of a survey conducted on 80 of its participant companies. The companies collectively recruit over 1.6 million Canadian citizens in around 20 industries. They generated revenues of around 1.2 trillion CAD in 2020.

Employers strongly feel that, Immigration helps in filling vacant jobs in Canada. The Canadian employers who use the immigration system, report that it addresses workforce shortages.

Importance of Immigration to the Canadian Workforce

Approximately, 2/3rd of Canadian organizations have recruited international skilled professionals with the help of the immigration system. It helps them meet the various needs of their businesses. Skilled workers enable the growth of the enterprise and add to the diversity of the workforce.

Shortages in Workforce in Specific Areas of Canada

Most shortages in the workforce are faced by these provinces and territories:

Employers struggle to find suitable candidates to fill job roles in the technical field. These fields face the most shortage:

In June 2022, the average weekly income of employees from the non-farm sector in Canada increased by 3.5% amounting to 1,159.01 CAD. It rose by 2.5% compared to May.

Employers in Canada hope to hire international professionals and avail themselves of international skills and talent through the TFWP or Temporary Foreign Worker Program, and the IMP or International Mobility Program.

Of the companies which are currently recruiting employees under the immigration system, 63% of them expect to increase their utility in the next 3 years. Most employers look forward to an increase of around 25%.

It is known as an EOI or Expression of interest, applied under 1 of the 3 immigration programs or a PNP (Provincial Nominee Program) in the Express Entry Pool. The programs are facilitated by the federal government of Canada.

The profiles of the candidates are ranked against the other profiles on the basis of the CRS or Comprehensive Ranking System, which is a points-based system. The candidates with the highest rank are issued an ITA or Invitations to Apply to apply for Canada PR. The candidates who receive an ITA need to submit a duly filled application and pay the required fee for processing within 90 days.
