The universities in the USA have always been the most preferred choice for Indian students but now countries like Canada and Australia are emerging as the new education destinations, according to ELS International Education Pathways Private Limited.

Though American universities are still popular among Indian students who opt fields like Engineering and computer science, universities in Canada and Australia are now popular destinations for higher education in life sciences and social sciences, according to ELS.

Vamshi Krishna, zonal manager of ELS, said, “When compared to America, it is easy to get permanent residence in Australia. Canada also has a flexible system to get jobs there after the course. These factors are attracting more Indian students to these countries for higher education.”

There is also an interesting change in preferences for courses among Indian students. Earlier, most students used to chose computer science in foreign universities. Now the courses like electrical engineering, bio-technology and social science are trending. Anil Kumar, a training and placement officer at a city-based engineering college, said, “According to the US Bureau of Statistics, number of jobs in the bio-technology field are likely to grow by 21 pc soon.”

To raise awareness among students about the opportunities in global education, the ELS organised a programme on Sunday, where experts interacted with students.
