Canada-becomes-preferred-destination-for-management-students

Until 2015, the United States and Britain were the choicest destinations of study for students intending to pursue masters in management studies. They both face stiff competition from Canada now, according to data released by the US-based Graduate Management Admission Council.

In 2016, Canada became the second most preferred destination for management students from Africa, third-most preferred for students from South and Central Asia and fifth-most select destination for American and Middle-Eastern students. This rise in Canada’s stature as a popular destination for business students is attributed to its pro-immigration stance.

According to Gregg Schoenfeld, GMAC director of research, this is happening because it is easier to obtain a work permit in Canada after graduation. In addition, it is seen a safer and a better-protected country.

He was quoted by The Globe and Mail as saying that government policies were responsible for steering students towards Canada.

David Dunne, director of MBA programs at Gustavson School of Business at the University of Victoria, said that it was not easy for most students to come to Canada and integrate into its society. He said that two-thirds of the students pursuing an education there were overseas students. That is why their school has a three-week orientation program that includes spending time outdoors to appreciate sustainability – their school’s signature theme. They also facilitate foreign students to integrate with local First Nation leaders as part of orientation.
