Washington - Senate Democrats including majority leader Harry Reid are to revive the long-stalled DREAM act proposal to ease immigration to the United States, the politicians said Tuesday in a statement. The bill would allow a 'select group' of foreign students 'with great potential to contribute more fully to America,' they said. A formal announcement is to be made Wednesday. The move came just hours after President Barack Obama, a fellow Democrat, called for reform of the US immigration system as he stood on the US-Mexican border. He demanded that Congress act on the long- simmering issue. The DREAM act would open up citizenship for millions of illegal immigrants who came to the United States as children. They would have to attend college or serve in the military to get citizenship. Obama has called immigration one of his top priorities since entering office in January 2009. 'The question is whether those in Congress who previously walked away in the name of enforcement are now ready to come back to the table and finish the work we've started,' he said in a speech in El Paso, Texas. 'We have to put the politics aside. And if we do, I'm confident we can find common ground.' 11 May 2011 http://www.monstersandcritics.com/news/usa/news/article_1638328.php/US-senators-to-revive-DREAM-act-to-ease-immigration For more news and updates, assistance with your visa needs or for a Free Assessment of your profile for Immigration or Work Visa’s just visit www.y-axis.com
