THREE Dublin schools with 2,854 non-EU students registered on visas that allow them to work in Ireland have delayed reopening after Christmas.

The three are Liffey College, Modern Educational Centre (MEC) and National College of Business Administration (NCBA).

On Tuesday, Judge Marie Baker is due to give her decision in a High Court challenge brought by two other schools against new rules introduced by the Department of Justice that would effectively force their closure as they would not have the accreditation to recruit non-EU students.

Under the new rules, only schools approved by Acels, a state accreditation body, will be permitted to recruit students who require visas to learn and work in Ireland. The Department of Justice has postponed the introduction of the rules until January 21 so it can assess Baker’s judgment
