Conducted by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), scores in the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) are generally required for admission into MBA courses – both within India as well as overseas.

The GMAT, said to be created by business schools for business schools, is one of the most trusted and well-understood predictors of academic success.

Those in charge of admissions to colleges and universities for business and management programs use the GMAT scores to compare candidates to each other.

The GMAT scores are used by 6,000+ programs in more than 2,100 universities and institutions in 114 countries across the world. There are more than 600 GMAT test centres around the world.

The GMAT is specifically designed to test skills that are of the utmost importance to management and business programs. Skills vital to succeed in real-world business and management settings are tested in the GMAT. Such skills include – critical reasoning skills, problem-solving abilities, logic, analytical writing etc.

Do keep in mind that unlike other standardized tests that can be equated to other tests and a parallel being drawn, the GMAT cannot be compared to other tests. Similarly, you cannot estimate GMAT scores based on what you might have got in other tests. The GMAT has not been equated with other tests because of two factors – the people that take the GMAT usually have different characteristics from those appearing for certain other tests; and the GMAT has a specific format of its own that differs from the other standardized tests.

The GMAT is known for its accuracy. Regardless of where and when the exam is administered, the same skills are tested with the same accuracy. Even if the candidates retake the GMAT, the scores do not vary greatly. Using multicultural examples, the GMAT ensures that any US-centric or English-speaking bias is reduced to the minimum. Studies have revealed that the GMAT is an accurate prediction for people of all nationalities.
