How immigration is good for the world at large

Immigration Immigration is good for economy as a whole, including for public spending and for the employed. Sandro Scocco, a Swedish economist of repute, is quoted by Social Europe as saying that in the UK there are a disproportionately high number of immigrants working in menial jobs. He says that is, in fact, true for most developed nations. He cites the example of Sweden where most bakers or cleaners are migrants. In addition, one in three bus drivers or restaurant workers is also a migrant. But the income of these employed migrants is on an average about 28 percent below that of the native population. According to a study, immigrants in Denmark from outside the EU got employed in physically strenuous jobs within various sectors, such as services, manufacturing and construction. This forced the natives, especially those in low-skilled livelihoods, to shift to more qualified and less physically strenuous jobs, without the risk of being unemployed. On the other hand, US immigrants have been responsible for shaping new career avenues for native workers and for also establishing new types of production methods. They have also been responsible for disrupting the employment structure by reducing wages and prices. That is why the notion that immigrants run away with low-skilled jobs and do not contribute to the economy is not true, Socco says.
