Canada Study Visa from India

The University of Toronto (fondly called as U of T) is a prominent world-class university in Canada. Many who intend to Study in Canada look forward to joining this prestigious university.

The university was found in 1827 as King's College. It was the first institution of higher studies in the colony of Upper Canada. A cherished institution, U of T has educated 4 Prime Ministers of Canada, 10 Nobel laureates and 14 Supreme Court Justices among other achievers.

Today, the University is ranked 29th by QS world rankings. It’s Canada’s highest-ranked institution. The path to joining the University of Toronto with a Canada study visa is a path to stellar academic achievements and a bright future.

Here we shall look at how to apply to the University of Toronto.

The application

The first step in getting to U of T is to decide the program you want to choose to study. If you are an international student, you must have gone through a language test. For those who don’t have English as the primary language, the test will give some evidence of English proficiency.

Candidates receive an email in the normal course one week after submitting an application online. After receiving the email, you must submit the required documentation.

Once the application is submitted, start training, keep practicing and try to keep your grades high. Conditional offers of admission are usually sent to students in late February. To fulfill the conditions of those offers you need to keep your grades up. If you choose to take a gap year, you can also request for deferral.

Graduate programs

The admission needs of the University of Toronto differ from program to program. The University has 3 campuses, one each in Scarborough, Mississauga, and St. George. There are over 700 undergraduate programs and 300 graduate programs in fields such as:

  • Life Sciences
  • Commerce and Management
  • Physical and Mathematical Sciences
  • Humanities and Social Sciences
  • Computer Science
  • Kinesiology & Physical Education
  • Engineering
  • Music and Architecture

Great academic profiles are expected by the university from the candidates. Besides, an English proficiency score is also necessary. The minimum requirement for the IELTS Academic Module is an overall band of 6.5 with no band below 6. The minimum scores for TOEFL’s Internet-Based Test are 100/120 with at least 22/30 in the writing section.

Tuition fees

The application fees for the University of Toronto are US$ 65 for undergraduate students and US$ 120 for graduate students. In normal cases, the University of Toronto's fees ranges from around $35,890 to $58,680. The average tuition fees come to $45,915. Although the University is one of Canada’s most expensive ones, it also offers a wide range of scholarship awards.

Campus life

The University of Toronto is home to over 1,000 student clubs and student-run organizations. These function across 3 campuses. Each club caters to a specific interest like quidditch, reading, space bots, beekeeping, or break-dancing, among many others. The culturally diverse environment is very welcoming. There are cooperative programs and volunteering activities for students.

Graduate programs

To qualify for Graduate programs at U of T, you need a minimum score of 570/800 on the GMAT. A competitive score is, however, higher than 600/800. An engineering graduate considering a post-graduate program must have a GRE score of 309 out of 340.
