Studying overseas after 12th

For students who have finished their Class 12th and aspire to study overseas, this is the right time to prepare. They should be planning their next step. It is best to take up a set of exams which will help them to Study Overseas.

These exams are important as they form an integral part of your eligibility criteria. The tests may vary depending on the course or program that you plan to pursue. It may also vary depending on the country that you choose.

To prepare yourself for studying overseas after the 12th, there are two sets of exams that you may need to take:

  1. Language Test
  2. Standardized Test

Language Tests:

Language Tests are meant for students whose first language is not English. These tests measure the English skills that an international student needs to have.

  1. IELTS: IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System. It is one of the most trusted English language tests accepted widely across the world. It is needed by most Universities abroad for allowing admission to English-taught programs. IELTS tests the English skills of students on four modules- Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking.
  2. TOEFL: TOEFL stands for Test of English as a Foreign Language. Students looking to pursue undergraduate or postgraduate courses in the USA, mostly take up TOEFL. Both online and paper-based variants of TOEFL are available, as per India Today.
  3. PTE: PTE stands for the Pearson Test of English and is slightly different than the other English tests. PTE is based on more day-to-day English. The pattern and the scoring of PTE are also different. Results are faster which makes it a popular choice amongst students pressed for time.

Standardized Tests:

Standardized tests are mostly the academic requirement depending on the University you choose. These tests may also vary depending on the course and the country that you choose.

  1. GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test): Most business schools abroad ask for GMAT scores while admitting foreign students. GMAT measures the logical and critical thinking ability of a student. It also tests the mathematical ability. It is a computer-based exam which is accepted by over 6000 business schools across the world.
  2. GRE (Graduate Record Examination): Students, who wish to take up graduate or business programs in countries like Canada or the USA, take the GRE. It measures the analytical, verbal, and mathematical skills of the students.
  3. SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test): Students, who wish to take up undergraduate courses in countries like the USA and Canada, take up SAT. Some UK Universities also accept SAT scores. It mainly assesses the verbal, written, and analytical skills of a student.
  4. ACT (American College Testing): This is another test required by many Universities for undergraduate courses in the USA. It evaluates the mathematical, scientific, verbal, and written skills of the students.
