Sydney plans to attract ‘best and brightest’

It is part of an initiative by New South Wales, Australia’s biggest state, which wants to quadruple its annual intake of skilled migrants, up to 7,200. It also includes plans to extend post-study work rights for international students. New South Wales (NSW) has historically had a low intake of skilled migrants, considering its population of 7.2 million is about one third of the country’s population.

Australia a world leader in skilled migration

Australia is leading the world in removing barriers for foreign workers with an agenda for ready recognition of overseas credentials which is “radical in global terms”, according to a world authority on skilled labour migration. The country’s skilled migration program had undergone a revolution from permanent to temporary entry and from points-tested to employer-nominated as the dominant basis of entry, said Lesleyanne Hawthorne, a consultant to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development on migrant labour to meet global skills shortages.Read More Articles: australiablog.y-axis.com

Citizenship and Immigration Canada Announces its Intention to Create a New Skilled Trades Program

To fill Canada’s growing labour shortages in construction, natural resources and similar industries, Citizenship and Immigration Minister Jason Kenney announced plans today to make it easier for skilled tradespersons to immigrate to Canada.

Canada looks to speed entry of skilled foreign workers

Immigration Minister Jason Kenney said the government will modify its Federal Skilled Worker Program, which has been skewed towards professionals, to try to attract trades people and other skilled workers that are in short supply in Canada during the current commodities boom.The new system will also increase the role of employers in the immigration system, allowing them to fill vital jobs faster.

Canada pledges to get rid of skilled worker visa programme backlog

Officials in Canada have pledged to eliminate the backlog in the country’s economic immigration programme to make the system faster and more flexible.

Canada wants foreign workers credentials to be assessed before they move

Canada is proposing a major change to how foreign skilled workers’ education credentials are assessed, Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney has announced.The proposed new requirement would mean that applicants wanting to immigrate as Federal Skilled Workers would have their foreign education credentials assessed and verified by designated organisations before they arrive in Canada.Read more at canadablog.y-axis.com

UK

Increased funds required for UK Tier 2 visa applicants from 14 June 2012

The UK Border Agency (UKBA) announced that they will increase the funds required to satisfy the maintenance requirement for Tier 2 visas applicants. The changes go into effect from 14 June 2012.

This follows a written ministerial statement from 15 March 2012 that outlines a number of changes to the Immigration Rules, including the closure of the Tier 1 Post Study Work route on 6 April 2012.

No Change to the Immigration Cap for Two Years

Immigration Minister, Damian Green, has confirmed that the Tier 2 (General) immigration cap will remain at its current level of 20,700 until April 2014.The announcement follows the recommendation made by the Migration Advisory Committee in February that no change should be made.

No bar on migration of skilled workers: UK

The UK government on Wednesday allayed fears on its new migration policy, saying its decision was not meant to close doors on skilled workers from other countries. “We will continue to welcome those who can fill gaps in the labour market which can’t be filled by UK residents,” British high commissioner to India, James Bevan CMG, said. US Hikes Visa Fee

Department of State of the United States of America has announced that it will adjust its visa processing fees, effective April 13, 2012. Under the new regime, the fee for most non-immigrant visa applications and border crossing cards will increase, while all immigrant visa processing fees will decrease.
