PNP pathways for international students to get Canada PR

The immigration programs of Canada provide permanent residency to immigrants who already have a connection in Canada. They should either have ties to a particular province, work experience in Canada, or an educational qualification in Canada.

Foreign national students can benefit from a few or all the advantages of the Canada Provincial Nominee Program or  PNP pathways if they choose to permanently immigrate to Canada.

The foreign national students pursuing their studies in Canada must fulfill all the requirements stated in their study permit during their course of study to add points to their CRS or Comprehensive Ranking System to better their chances of getting PR or permanent residency in Canada.

International Students’ Immigration Programs

There are various immigration programs available for international students in Canada. The programs have different requirements for eligibility and have conditions that go beyond attaining an academic degree in Canada. The PNP pathways given below provide options to international students to choose the best pathways for them to become permanent resident of Canada.

The programs for international students in Canada are listed below.

  • Canadian Experience Class
  • Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • Federal Skill Trades Program
  • Provincial Nominee Programs
  • Atlantic Immigration Pilot
  • Rural Northern Immigration Pilot

Most of the programs for permanent residency function with the help of the Express Entry Canada program. The program aids in the management of PR applications in the country’s federal system.

Canadian Experience Class

The CEC or Canadian Experience Class program operates through Express Entry. The eligibility factors for this program includes

  • Age
  • Proficiency in English
  • Educational Qualification
  • A continuous skilled work experience of 12 months that has been done full time
  • Three years of part-time experience

Once the international student completes their study program, they are likely to be eligible for a PGWP or post-graduation work permit. It gives the work experience required to be eligible for CEC.

*Check your eligibility to Canada through Y-Axis Canada Immigration Score calculator.

If the education has been completed in another country, you get points in the CRS. If you have an ECA or Educational Credential Assessment report for the purpose of immigration from an organization. As proof that their education matches the Canadian standards of:

  • High School
  • Post-secondary institution

Provincial Nominee Programs

Canada’s provinces and territories operate their own immigration programs, called Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs). Every PNP works differently since they are designed to meet the needs of that specific province or territory.

Many PNPs give preference to applicants who have some kind of connection to the province, including the previous study completed within the province and work experience gained in the province.

Depending on the province where an international student completed their program of study, they may be eligible to apply for a PNP within that province.

Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program

The Atlantic Immigration Program is a pathway to permanent residence for skilled international workers and foreign national graduates from a Canadian institution who want to work and live in any of the four Atlantic provinces of Canada— Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, or Newfoundland and Labrador.

The program aids in hiring qualified applicants by Canadian employers for job roles that have not been filled by local people.

Rural Northern Immigration Pilots

Foreign national students are given exemption from the requirements of work experience if they have done

  • Two years or more of the study program. They also need to fulfill
  • The full-time study program of more than 2 years
  • Got the requirement fulfilled not more than 18 months before
  • Present in Canada for the last 16 of the 24 months
  • A post-graduate degree or a higher qualification
  • Student of a full-time course
  • Completed the degree before 18 months
  • Present in Canada for the study program

The policies make it convenient for international students in Canada to seamlessly integrate into the community. The programs are symbiotic for the students as well as Canada.

With the state of the art education and promising career opportunities, Canada gives hopes of a bright future to its international students. The country gains significant workforce. It makes it a win-win situation for the people involved in this.
