Positive view about immigration in the UK

The positive perception of UK citizens regarding immigration is at an all-time high, at least after 2011. This has been revealed by the latest UK Social Attitudes survey. The negative views about immigration are declining sharply after 2015, as quoted by the Financial Times.

The UK Social Attitudes survey is considered to be the most rigorous polling exercise in the nation. It has revealed that 83% of the UK citizens have a positive perception of immigration. Just 17% viewed immigration negatively for the impact on the economy of the UK.

The percentage of those who considered that immigrants undermined the cultural life in the UK was just 23%. Both the percentages are significantly lower from 2015 prior to the referendum campaign for Brexit.

When the 2 questions were first asked in 2011, around 405 people viewed immigration to be negative. This was for both the economy and cultural life.

There is no evidence that EU referendum campaign resulted in making the UK less tolerant towards the immigrants, said the survey. On the other hand, the value of immigrants has only enhanced to a degree that did not have proof prior to it, added the UK Social Attitudes survey.

The England Football team for summer 2018 has been considered to be a testimony to the benefits of immigration. 6 out of the 11 members had minimum 1 parent overseas-born.

On the other hand, the UK Social Attitudes survey outlines that the opinion regarding Brexit itself has altered very little in the UK.
