Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, has launched 16 postgraduate scholarships for students for the academic year beginning September 2012.

Trinity seeks to attract people of excellent academic ability. The scholarships are a means of attracting such ability in India. They are also part of Trinitys plans to forge links with India as part of its global co-operation in education. The scholarships are being offered in the universitys taught Masters courses offered in arts, humanities, social sciences, science, computer science, engineering, mathematics and health sciences, says Jane Ohlmeyer, vice-provost for global relations, Erasmus Smiths Professor of Modern History, Trinity College Dublin. The universitys faculty of arts, humanities and social sciences is offering five scholarships in its taught postgraduate courses, valued at 3,000 each for one year. The faculty of health sciences is also offering five scholarships in its taught postgraduate courses valued at 3,000 for one year. The faculty of engineering, mathematics and science is offering four scholarships in its taught postgraduate courses valued at 3,000 for one year. Additionally, two postgraduate research scholarships valued at 6,000 per year are being offered for three years for full-time study on a PhD programme. The scholarships can be for postgraduate research in any discipline of the faculty provided the supervision expertise is available. Students can choose from MSc in interactive entertainment technology to an MPhil in popular literature, there are more than 200 postgraduate courses to choose from. The scholarships will cover the educational costs, explains Ohlmeyer. Candidates must be Indian nationals and residents in India and eligible for overseas tuition fees (non-EU). They must demonstrate academic ability and performance. The deadline for application is February 1, 2012, and classes will commence in September 2012. For more, visit www.tcd.ie/graduate_studies UK scholarship University of Northampton, UK, has launched three full scholarships at the postgraduate level for Indian students for the September 2012 intake. The scholarships will be offered by the Northampton Business School, School of Arts and School of Science and Technology, respectively. The scholarships will be valued at 9,500 each (10,000, if an MBA student is awarded the scholarship from the business school). In order to be eligible for the scholarships applicants must be an Indian national or residing in India when applying, must achieve 70% or above at Bachelors level, together with the required English language level of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent, among others. Jan Fitzsimmons, deputy director, international office, University of Northampton, says, Traditionally Indian students have been opting for our business programmes. So we wanted to promote our other schools. On eligibility, Fitzsimmons says that they are looking for students with high grades and an application-oriented mind. Also, we would prefer students who have an entrepreneurial instinct, she says. Students should take their SOPs seriously. It is important, she says, that students state clearly as to why they want to go to the UK and why especially Northampton. The deadline for applying is May 20.
