Australia ETA

All overseas visitors to Australia will need some form of authorization prior to their visit to the nation. Many of these Overseas Travelers are eligible to apply for the Electronic Travel Authority that authorizes tourists and business travelers for a period of maximum three months.

The Nationals of the US, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Hong Kong, Canada, and Brunei Darussalam are eligible to apply for the digital ETA. Nationals from rest of the world can apply for the Australia ETA via an Australian Visa office, flight agency or travel agent. The ETA is processed within less than 24 hours, as quoted by Travel and Leisure.

ETA is a digital visa that does not need a sticker, stamp or label on the hard copy of the passport. The cost of ETA processing is 20 Australian dollars. Overseas travelers from the US who have an authorized E-Passport also have the option to utilize SmartGate, Australia’s automated border processing system at their arrival without any additional costs.

Usually, Australia does not mandate its overseas tourists to undergo medical assessment but the nation has stringent health parameters for crossing its borders. Overseas Immigrants with the Australia PR and as well as provisional overseas visitors who will be residing for educational or medical purposes must undergo mandatory tests for TB if they are above 11 years and for HIV if they are above 15 years.

Applicants of Australia visa who are diagnosed with TB will not be permitted to arrive in Australia till the time they are declared free of the disease upon treatment. Applicants of Australia visa who are diagnosed positive for HIV tests are authorized to enter the nation depending upon their medical case.

Department of Immigration and Border Protection in Australia has declared in its official website that decisions for approving or refusing entry will be on similar grounds as for any other prior medical history. The chief deciding factor is the expenses incurred by the visitor to the community in Australia for the community and healthcare services.

Overseas travelers who stay in Australia beyond the period of their authorization even for a small duration will face deportation or detention by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection in Australia.
