The IELTS exam or the International English Language Testing System is designed to test the English language proficiency of non- native speakers. They will need to obtain a specific score if they want to work or study in a country where English is the main language of communication.

There is no passing score in IELTS. The results are reported on a 9-band scale (1 being the lowest, 9 being the highest). If you have taken the IELTS test for immigration, then a good score depends on the country and the visa category that you have applied for.

If you are applying for studying overseas, then you should get a score as per the country and the University that you are applying for.

6. Is the IELTS is a compulsory test?

You need not take the IELTS if the program or the university you want to study does not require it.
