Implemented on the 13^th of July, these immigration rules prevent foreign students from extending their visa to stay for a longer period after the completion of their course. The intension behind this change According to the Minister of State for Immigration, Mr. James Brokenshire, this is a method being used to keep a check on migration while attempting to prevent immigration abuse. Along with this, it is also their aim to maintain the standards at world class universities. Students who wish to stay longer, must apply from outside the country. From now on, student visas will be valid for not three but only two years. As mentioned above, extension is prohibited unless one can show a formal link with the university. The issue has divided the concerned people into two groups debating over the necessity in the change of immigration rules. The difference of opinion One group of people argue that foreign students have more to give than to take when they come. They opine that, international students add to the country’s economy in all the activities they do.
