Extending your Study permit

  • The expiry date is listed on the top corner of the permit.
  • The expiry date tells you when you must stop studying and leave Canada.
  • This date indicates the length of your study program plus 90 days.
  • These 90 days give you time to prepare and leave Canada, or you can even extend your stay to study in Canada.

When to Apply?

If you are willing to continue studying in Canada, you can register for a study extension of 30 days, but this has to be done before your study permit date gets expires.

There are two options to study and continue staying in Canada if the study permit expires:

  • You can apply for a new study permit
  • You can restore your status as a temporary resident

How to stay in Canada, even if you are no longer studying?

To stay in Canada, you have two options:

  • You can apply for a work permit.
  • You can even register for a change in your stay status and can continue to be in Canada as a visitor.
  • You can leave Canada if you haven’t applied for an extension and your study permit is expired.
