Eligibility Requirements for US student visa

  • The age of the student must be of 18 years or above.
  • English language proficiency tests as per university requirements.
  • Acceptance letter from the Student Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP).
  • Complete the student visa application process.
  • Pay the visa application fee.
  • Book an appointment for the visa interview and clear it.
     

Types of Student Visas

International students studying in the US can use the following student visas.

  • Student Visa F1: F1 student visa is a popular entry visa for international students to pursue academic studies. F1 Visa also allows an international student to work part-time outside campus or can get on-campus employment.
  • Student dependent visa (F2): F2 student visa is called a non-immigrant dependent visa, where the immediate family members of the F1 student visa holder will be allowed to visit the US. The dependents can be a spouse or any unmarried children who are below 21. The F1 visa holder must provide sufficient proof of funds to support the family or the dependents during their stay in the US.

Work opportunities after studying in the USA

The US offers OPT (OPTIONAL PRACTICAL TRAINING PERMITpermits for international students to work while studying and after completing their studies.

Optional Practical Training (OPT): It is a temporary work permit provided for an F-1 visa student visa holder who enters the US to study core subjects.

Eligible Students can register and apply to obtain 1 year of OPT employment permit on or before finishing their studies.

There are two types of OPT permits.

If you are an F-1 student visa holder, you might get an opportunity to apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT) in two ways:

  • Pre-completion OPT: The F-1 student must apply to be part of pre-completion Optional Practical Training (OPT) after being offered full-time work for a full academic year at a certified college or university in the US.
  • Post-completion OPT: The student can apply for the work permit after the post-completion of OPT after completing their studies.
