Who can travel to Germany this summer _ what are the rules.

Due to the evolving times, there are many travel restrictions to other countries like Germany. It has imposed stringent lockdown rules and entry restrictions since December 2020, but its borders are open for essential travelers (from third countries and the EU or Schengen areas).

Countries permitted to enter Germany

Germany restricted many travelers based on the country of residence, but it permits restriction-free entry for few countries.  These include:

  • European Union Member States
  • Schengen-associated countries
  • Liechtenstein
  • Switzerland
  • Norway
  • Iceland
  • Australia
  • Israel
  • Japan
  • New Zealand
  • Singapore
  • South Korea
  • Thailand are also allowed to enter Germany upon recommendation.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that "there is a ban on transport to countries in which virus mutations are widespread (so-called virus variant areas). Transport companies, e.g. Airlines or train companies, are not allowed to transport people from these countries to Germany”.

The individuals who submit proof of vaccination or evidence of recovery can skip the quarantine measures after entering Germany.

Other than these, there are certain exceptions to persons who have traveled through high incidence areas without making a stop.

Quarantine measures

  • Self-isolation is a must for every traveler for 10-14 days depending upon the place from which they departed
  • no one is allowed to visit or leave during self-isolation

Travel Insurance is Must for people traveling to Germany

Travel Insurance is mandated for all travelers to Germany. The insurance ensures the travelers save their spending on travel if their trip gets canceled by any chance due to coronavirus. MondialCare, AXA Assistance or Europ Assistance provides medical travel insurance at a very low cost.

Current situation in Germany

Most of the countries in the world are affected due to coronavirus and its variants. Germany managed to control the situation by imposing strict measures to prevent the extensive spread of the virus. Till July 2021, nearly 43.7 percent of the German population are fully vaccinated with COVID-19 vaccines. The situation in Germany is under control, and hence it started allowing the members from other countries with few restrictions.
