The US House has approved a $4.5 billion bill to aid immigrants. This is an emergency package for border aid to care of thousands of immigrant families as well as unaccompanied kids. These have been detained after crossing the Mexico-US border.

The bill to help immigrants was passed along party ideologies. This was after Nancy Pelosi the House Speaker put down a minor revolt by Hispanic and progressives lawmakers. These had sought major changes to the bill.

Latest provisions added to the legislation were milder than what the lawmakers had sought originally. However, the pressing need for the funds seems to have outweighed any other concerns. It was to prevent the humanitarian crisis on the border from becoming a disaster.

The 195-230 vote leads to a showdown in the Senate dominated by the Republicans. It may try to pressurise Democrats to send President Trump a diverse widely bipartisan supporting legislation in coming days. This is even as the House and Senate race to wind up the mandatory bills by the weekend.

Pelosi briefed in a consequent speech on the floor that we are making sure that children get medical care, shelter, sanitary items, clothing, and food. We are also offering legal assistance access. Families belong together and so we are protecting families, added Pelosi.

The legislation has provided for $ 1 billion plus to feed and shelter immigrants detained by the US Border Patrol. It also has around $ 3 billion for unaccompanied immigrant kids who are relinquished to the Health and Human Services Department.

The bill seeks to direct enhanced care standards at HHS influx shelters, as quoted by the Economic Times. These shelter kids that wait to be placed with sponsors like members of the family in the US. Both the Senate and House bills make sure that the funds cannot be transferred to the border wall proposed by Trump. These would also block data on sponsors of immigrant kids from being utilized for deporting them.

Nita Lowey House Appropriations Committee Chairwoman said that the cruel immigration policies of President Trump are tearing families apart. These are also causing terror in the communities. It mandates that strict protections are present in the legislation to ensure the use of funds only for humanitarian needs. These must not be used for a border wall, detention beds or immigration raids said, Lowey.
