US Study Visa

Despite the current global situation on account of COVID-19, the US still remains the first choice for the majority of Indian students when it comes to studying overseas options. Universities and colleges in the US are expected to see no dip as such in their share in the total demand internationally.

According to foreign education consultants and experts, the US is a popular destination for study abroad on account of the various high-quality education providers in the country. Experts are of the opinion that as many of the US student visas would have already been applied for by the time the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, any impact on such US student visas is unlikely.

Many of the universities in the US have also pushed ahead of their semester dates in order to accommodate international students in the present global scenario.

International students seeking admission into undergraduate programs in the US were unlikely to defer their plans on account of COVID-19. Generally coming from high-income family backgrounds, many of the Indian students that take up under-graduate courses in the US go for the experience. There is usually no intention of settling down in the US.

On the contrary, a significant number of international students that go to Canada for higher education plan on taking up Canadian permanent residence eventually.

While Canada scores over the US in its liberal policy towards granting permanent residency to international students, the US nonetheless has the upper hand where it comes to having more globally ranked institutions. The US has 4 universities among the Top 5 on QS World University Rankings 2020 –Massachusetts Institute of Technology [MIT] [at #1], Stanford University [#2], Harvard University [#3], and California Institute of Technology [Caltech] [#5].

As per the 2019 Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange, more than 202,000 Indians went to the US to study overseas in 2018/19.

In the 2019 Open Doors Report, New York University [NYU] takes the top spot among the Top 20 Universities in the US with most international students.
