Working hours and paid time off

In Poland, the work hours are 40 hours a week and 8 hours a day. Overtime per week cannot exceed 48 hours a week or 150 hours a year. Employees are qualified for 20 days of yearly leave if workers have been employed for fewer than ten years. If the worker has been employed for at least ten years, then the individual is eligible for 26 days of annual leave.

Leave of Absence

Employees are qualified for 26 days of paid vacation per year. Employees with work experience of fewer than ten years (for one or more employers) can take 20 days of leave, while those who have been employed for at least ten years are entitled to a leave of 26 days. Every month one works, employees who have been hired for the first time will be accruing 1/12 of their yearly leave time.

Social security benefits

When you work in Poland, you need to contribute to the native social security system. You are eligible for similar benefits as Polish citizens of your contribution. The Polish social security system covers accident insurance, old age, disability, and sickness expenses. Poland provides healthcare benefits to people through a healthcare system funded by the community known as the Narodowy Fundusz Zdrowia. Public healthcare is provided free for everyone. In addition, popular in Poland is private healthcare, and most employers offer private health insurance to foreign nationals and their families.

Every employer typically has a chosen private healthcare provider and comes up with a package to give their employees. You can opt from one of the various company-sponsored plans, ranging from the most general to those covering specific health care, and you can generally insure your spouse and children as well.

Sick leave and pay

When you take the first 33 days of sick leave in one year, you have to be paid a minimum of 80% of your average income (14 days for those aged 50 or more). After that, employees get sickness allowance at the rate of 80% for each day they are absent, or 100% in certain circumstances, from the social security system. Employers will cover these expenses of their employers.

Life insurance

It’s a popular fund that guarantees a life insurance plan for a specific time offered by an employer. Do ensure to check the coverage of the time period when you are selecting one. It may last longer than your work period with the employer, and you may need to contribute fully to yourself following that.

Maternity, paternity, and parental leave

Women can avail of 20 weeks of maternity leave, beginning six weeks before giving birth. Women can make use of maternity leave, irrespective of their service duration, with the existing employer. Paternity leave is given for a maximum period of two weeks.

In addition, individuals are qualified for 32 weeks of parental leave, which can be availed by either of the parents.

Other benefits
